I love it that the Dems came out on top in 06'. I am elated that scandal after scandal is starting to finally envelope the Bush regime. I'm just tickled that people like Abu "Goonzales" may finally get their due. I'm delighted that Scooter Libby was finally brought to justice. I'm happy that some votes on the Iraq mess are finally coming up (despite their apparent worthlessness). I am overjoyed that it looks like Herr Rove may finally get his chain yanked over the "Prosecutor Scandal".
Hell, like an emaciated and starving dog, I'm happy with anything, even the tiny morsels of partially formed gristle and bone being thrown to us "reality voters". But you know what?, ....none of it means shit. None. Of. It.
Find out why, after the fold....
While the bulk of us blog away on this issue and that, enjoying the slivers of good news that some justice may finally be in the offing for the Bush cabal, far too many of us are sated with these "tiny bits". And far too much of the American public are still not tuned into the issues.
Many of the current imbroglios seem to serve no other purpose than to divert our attention from the really big, and serious issues before us. And, at times there seems to be so many areas of corruption and malfeasance (ie: Iraq, Katrina, Plamegate, Prosecutorgate, etc., etc., etc., ....ad nauseam) to be , or are, being looked at, .....that focus is lost, and our nation's soul is all the poorer for it. To wit;
When the Democratic Congress took over this year, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid basically stated that "impeachment is off the table". How could they say that, not knowing the results of the many investigations they were about to embark on regarding the administration's activities? In essence, by stating that "impeachment is off the table", they were/are saying, that no matter what, and despite any evidence they might find, or the will of the American people, they would not allow the impeachment of G.W. Bush and his minions. Is this what they were saying?
Now perhaps there is political calculus in making those statements, but to me, and to millions of others, it only says one thing: "We don't have the guts". Now, maybe the plan is to "kill the beast" with death by a thousand cuts? Or, maybe the plan is to somehow coalesce all of the brewing scandals into a package that would devastate the Repuglican electorate in 08'? Or, perhaps certain elements in the he Democratic leadership simply don't want to take it too far....?
Whichever the case, my greatest fear over these last five plus years has been that the Bush regime would escape justice, true justice for their crimes, ....either through their own efforts, or vis-a-vis an insufficiently aggressive congress, or, through actual collusion that would let these criminals escape the "long arm".
That fear I have, and I know many others share the same fear, has not abated in the least, despite what seems to be some progress of late. But why?
BECAUSE THE REAL, THE MOST IMPORTANT, AND THE MOST HEINOUS CRIMES OF THIS ADMINISTRATION, ARE NOT BEING DISCUSSED IN CONGRESS OR THE MEDIA
And this is the point of the entire diary. The "point", the "ball", the most important and overarching issue(s) ....are being missed, either through negligence, lack of will, political calculus, or covert/overt collusion.
The issues?
G.W. BUSH, DICK CHENEY, AND A CABAL OF NEOCONS ,CONSPIRED AND LIED TO THIS NATION, AND OUR CONGRESS, TO TAKE US INTO AN ILLEGAL INVASION AND WAR THAT HAS THUS FAR COST US ALMOST 3500 DEAD SOLDIERS, 500,000 DEAD IRAQIS, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF WOUNDED, INJURED, AND DISPLACED ON ALL SIDES, AT A COST OF NEARLY A TRILLION DOLLARS TO OUR TREASURY.
PERIOD.
There are no other issues of importance that surpasses these issues in terms of importance to this nation, its people, and the world. None.
So while we can enjoy the tidbits of justice we're seeing now, we cannot, and must not stop calling for justice for the most important issues of our time..... and that is, bringing this mis-administration to justice for it's crimes against ....humanity.
The evidence is there for all to see. It cannot be denied, and in doing so, it continues to perpetuate these crimes. This congress (and the media) has a choice. Will it make the right one, or will it go down in history as an aider and abettor?
So, you'll excuse me if I don't start waving my little American flag and start doing the jig just yet (especially after the weasel Dem decision not to restrain Bush from attacking Iran). There will be no champagne corks popping around this house, because until I see this nation bring these criminals to justice, my faith will not now, nor ever, be restored in this country, ....and that would be a very sad thing indeed.
